Ryanair hand luggage & liquid rules
Ryanair follows the airport's liquid rule — usually 100 ml per container in a single clear bag, or up to 2 L at airports with new CT scanners. Every passenger gets one small personal bag (40×20×25 cm) free. A 10 kg overhead cabin bag (55×40×20 cm) only travels with Priority & 2 Cabin Bags or Regular fare.
Cabin bag allowance
Must fit under the seat in front of you.
Included with Priority, Regular and Plus fares; extra fee otherwise.
Liquid rules on this airline
- Ryanair does not set its own liquid limit — the rule is set by the airport you depart from.
- At most airports that means 100 ml per container inside one transparent resealable bag.
- Where CT scanners are in place (much of the UK, Ireland, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and more) you may leave liquids in your bag and carry up to 2 L per container.
- Alcohol above 70% ABV cannot fly at all; 24-70% ABV is capped at 5 L per person in checked baggage.
Duty-free & connections
- Sealed duty-free liquids bought airside are allowed in the cabin, kept in the STEB (tamper-evident bag) with the receipt visible.
- On connections through non-EU airports the STEB may be re-screened — keep the receipt and don't open the bag.
Medicines, baby milk, batteries & vapes
- Baby food, formula and expressed milk are exempt from the 100 ml limit in reasonable quantities.
- Prescription liquid medication is exempt when accompanied by the prescription or a doctor's note.
- E-cigarettes and vape devices must travel in the cabin — never in checked bags. Spare lithium batteries and power banks are cabin-only.
Frequently asked
Can I take a bigger clear bag on Ryanair?
No. The airport clear-bag rule (roughly 20×20 cm, one per passenger) is set by security, not by Ryanair, and applies even if your Ryanair allowance is generous.
Do I have to pay for hand luggage on Ryanair?
The small 40×20×25 cm personal bag is free for everyone. The larger 10 kg overhead bag is only included with Priority, Regular and Plus fares.
Can I take duty-free bought at the airport onto a Ryanair flight?
Yes, if it's sealed in the tamper-evident bag with the receipt visible and you don't open it before your final destination.
