Heads up: airport security may allow an item, but the destination border may not. Always read your destination's import rules for food, dairy, meat, CBD and medicines before you pack.

Common questions

Frequently asked

What does "Can I take X from Y to Z?" actually check?

We check three different rules in order: (1) whether airport security at your departure airport will let the item through cabin baggage; (2) whether the airline allows it in checked luggage; (3) whether the destination country lets you bring it in at the border. An item can pass step 1 and still fail step 3.

Why does airport security let me through but customs stop me?

Airport security is about flight safety — liquids, sharp objects, dangerous goods. Border and customs rules are about what each country allows you to import — dairy, meat, fresh produce, CBD, medicines, alcohol allowances. They are two separate systems, run by different agencies.

Can I take food in hand luggage on a plane?

Solid food is generally fine through airport security. Liquids, gels and spreads (honey, jam, yoghurt, olive oil, soft cheese, sauces) fall under the 100ml cabin-bag rule unless your airport has CT scanners that allow larger amounts. Pack the full-size jar or bottle in checked luggage.

Can I take dairy or meat across borders?

Often no, especially flying into the UK, the US, Australia or Indonesia. Even if airport security clears it, dairy and meat are commonly restricted at the border. Check the destination's official import rules.

Can I take duty-free liquids on a connecting flight?

Usually yes if the duty-free item is in a sealed Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) with the receipt visible and you don't open it. Some transfer airports re-screen liquids — keep the bag sealed and the receipt to hand.

Can I take CBD oil abroad?

It depends on the destination. CBD is legal in much of Europe and the UK, restricted in many places, and illegal at the border in some countries (including the UAE and Indonesia). Airport security clearing it does not make it legal to land with — always check destination law before you pack it.
