How we verify airport liquid rules

Liquid Limits is an editorial aggregator of official airport, airport-operator, national-authority and aviation-security guidance. We don't guess — every confirmed rule on the site is tied to a source we monitor on a schedule. When a rule can't be verified, we default to the stricter 100ml cabin-bag limit rather than show an unverified answer.

Source tiers

Each rule is tagged with the authority level of its source. Higher-tier sources override lower-tier ones.

  • Tier 1 — National aviation authority

    The UK Department for Transport, US TSA, EU Commission, Australian Office of Transport Security and equivalents. Used as the baseline rule for every airport in that jurisdiction.

  • Tier 2 — Airport operator

    The airport's own official security or passenger-information page (e.g. Heathrow.com, AENA, ANA Aeroportos). Overrides the national baseline when the operator confirms a different in-force rule.

  • Tier 3 — Government or regulator statement

    Press releases or ministerial statements that confirm a change before operator pages are updated. Marked as provisional until the operator page reflects it.

Verification workflow

  1. 1. Source captured. Every rule links to an authoritative URL with the date it was first verified by a human reviewer.
  2. 2. Weekly automated monitoring. A scheduled job checks each source for content changes and flags potential rule changes for review.
  3. 3. Human review on change. Flagged sources are reviewed before the visible rule on the site is updated.
  4. 4. Cross-reference for >100ml claims. Any rule that allows more than 100ml in cabin baggage requires a Tier 1 or Tier 2 source. We block "high allowance" labels without one.
  5. 5. Safe-mode fallback. If a source is older than the freshness threshold, or unverifiable, the page downgrades to the strict 100ml default rather than mislead.

Dates you'll see on every page

  • Source last checked

    The date our monitor or a reviewer last opened the official source page to check for changes.

  • Rule last verified

    The date a human reviewer last confirmed the rule shown on the page matches the source.

  • Page last updated

    The date the user-visible content on the page meaningfully changed.

Corrections

If you've been through an airport recently and a rule on this site doesn't match what security enforced, please tell us. We re-verify and update the source link the same week.
